Bashy – Catch Me If You Can [Album Review]

The first week of June saw releases from Bashy and Skepta, and this is TeamSupreme’s review for Bashy’s long awaited debut album. Bashy’s popularity has rised in recent times. At lot of this has to be related to the role he played in Adulthood, creating the hit song for the film. He since captilized on this, keeping his music up with the strong Bashy.com. Here is what came next….

Catch Me If You Can (Intro): This is only the intro, but it is sick. The beat is just epic. “This is his record, this is his time”. Well, lets see what you got then Bash…

Before, Before: “Let me take on a tour of my life before”. This is nice, a good way to start a cd. He reflects on his old times, (“i used to recite Dizzees bars before!”) and all things old. Kind of refreshing, not something you hear often! The beat is nice, Bashys flow compliments it nicely. 9/10

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?: Completely different kind of tune, something which goes on well throughout the album. To be fair, its been pretty hard to avoid this tune recently, and there is a good reason. It is sick. It has that sort of chorus which is so simple, but just remains in your head! It could of been easy to just leave it at that, kind of like Wearing My Rolex, but Bashy spits some nice verses too! I like the way he references Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes as well! 8/10

She’s A Gangsta: Hmm. I’ve seen a LOT of postive response for this. But i can’t grasp it, i’m sorry. It has Bashy singing with autotune for half the tune, and whilst it’s not the worst i’ve heard, it’s not the best. When he actually spits, its nice though! Its a shame, cause again, its a nice little concept. 5/10

Travel The World feat. N-Dubz: And so we come to the standard “lets feature NDubz” track [no shots lol], and thankfully, like Tinchy Stryder before him, Bashy makes a very nice tune. It won’t get the same amount of hype, notice, or  He tells us where he wants to go when he’s made nice money (at least he ain’t bragging about how much he has like many MC’s!), which to be honest, is pretty much everywhere! Oh yeah, Dappys chorus is very nice as well, 7/10.

Change: Wow, this must of been a tough track to do. Bashys pretty much critising some stuff he’s done, saying what he would do instead. A very ‘ard track, beat matches is perfectly, with the sample. Fantastic, 10/10

Copycat: Wow. The beat is actually brilliant! Bish Bosh Bash KILLS it as well. “Oh my gosh, you’re a copycat!”. Bashy coming good with the all around song making, its a very polished album so far, each song is different, something i look for in an album! 9/10

Ransom ft. Wretch 32 and Scorcher: This is so far the best tune. When the video came out for this, i was amazed. A lot of ENglish artists gain critism for not being able to make “songs”. Listen to this, and take it back. Each MC plays a different role, making the tune like a movie. I can’t even explain, but the album just for this to be honest. 10/10 (Oh yeah, check the video guys!)

Living My Dream ft. Sirach Charles: Wow at this one, “if only i can just get the lables to listen”. They should after a CD of this quality to be honest. Bashy talks about his music career on this one, and to a fantastic quality. More artists should do tracks like this to be honest. Oh yeah, the chorus with Sirach Charles singing is awesome. Need to hear more from him. 9/10

Life: A nice track. But, little bit off key. I like the beat. I like the rapping (content/flow/everything) from Bashy. BUT… I don’t think they compliment each other very well. Still, 6/10.

Your Wish Is My Command ft. H-Boogie: This is niceeee. Chorus from H-Boogie is sweeeeeeeet. Bashy rides the beat well (pause). Could see this being a single for some reason, not sure why though. 8/10

We Can Do Anything ft. Loick Essien and Jamelia: Naughty Boys beat is brilliant on this. Loick Essien deserves more recognition also, he is an amazing vocalist. And obviously the more well known Jamelia, who also comes nicely on this track. Bashy almost tones his voice down a bit, to match the beat. Its well done, well made, very good! 9/10

Sorry ft. Zalon: Not sure about this one though Bash. I am definately not feeling the beat or chorus. Thankfully, not for the first time, Bashy makes up for it with some nice verses. 6/10

What About Me? – Now this is more like it. Nice beat, nice lyrics, much better! Another one related to his music career, its sweet. 8/10
Day Before I Die: The sample on the chrous, wow. Actually amazing. A very deep tune, didn’t think he could it, but Bash actually smashes it. One of the better tunes on the album. So much realness, mans literally pouring his heart out, not for the first time. Makes for great music. 9/10

Moving onto the bonus tracks that we all know about….

Kidulthood to Adulthood: 10/10. Thats all there is to it. Soundtrack to one of last years biggest british films, Adulthood. The beat by Maniac is just mental. It was the only grime track to chart last year, and you can see why. Its quality is just undeniable.

Black Boys: For some reason, a very contrversial tune. But its amazing. (Yes, i’m white). How you can say this is racist is beyond me, He’s clearly repping his race, the same way I do when supporting the English football team. Makes some amazing points. Oh and the beat is just incredible. Again, 10/10

Overall, theres a lot of variety in the CD, which is something i like to see, rather than 10 tracks all about drugs or money. I would of liked to of heard a couple more grime tracks on this, but hey, we still got Skeptas and Wileys albums right!. All in all, a very good ‘album’, 8/10! Keep this fire coming Bashy! (Purchase it HERE on iTunes for just £7.99)
