Around Bow with Lee Brasco – Part 5
TeamSupreme are proud to present Part 5 of this fantastic feature whatever you do, check this shit out. Its awesome. And the previous parts.
This is the final part of Lee Brasco’s guide around E3. If you’ve missed any of the other editions, you can find the first part here, the second piece here, the third just here and the fourth instalment here.
But we’re still in the Heart of Bow, and Lefevre Walk stands to our left. It’s changed, and it’s not the Bow where Brasco grew up.
LB: Back in the day there used to be a lot of us on peddle-bikes, the main names – Mercston, Stamina – and that’s all you will know and have heard of, but a few others, and we’ll just get on bikes and ride around everywhere, drive around and do madness. Draw girls on bikes, it would be a madness.
We move on to Bow Road, going into Fairfield Road from the bottom. Just on the left is Paton Close, opposite some pretty nice houses. It’s unassuming cul-de-sac, but Bow Boys is at the end. Wiley went to school here.
More or less opposite Paton Close though is Bow Bus Garage, another part of Brasco’s childhood.
Check the rest after the jump…
LB: Basically we used to go into Bow Garage, and when the buses were like off-duty, we used to run on the buses and dig out the seats. There used to be phones, money, wallets, even phone cards, ones you put in a phone box – even them. There used to be a lot of things in there all the time, but we always used to tidy it back the way we left it, because we didn’t want to raise suspicion and they start clocking on. We was doing it for years. Back then they was like Motorolas and all them old-school phones – this must have been ten years ago, longer than that, like thirteen years ago. Routemasters, 30p for the bus. But obviously you just get older and you forget all that, but I was just doing it for ages with a few people. There was a lot of free money involved.
We walk back towards Mile End. The journey’s nearly over – Brasco’s one in music has time in it yet.
LB: What’s made me really strong is a few friends, but not all of them are 100% supportive of what I do – the main 100% supportive people around me, that have encouraged me to do more, is Dirty and Rapid. And Slix. They’ve been the main source in helping me to keep going.
In contrast to those around you, what about the recent situation with a certain MC sending for you?
LB: Basically he sent because I said ‘ergh’ in a bar which D Double E, Dot Rotten and Sharkie Major have done as well. He sees it as a shot for recognition, so he got overly excited and started making shit war dubs! When my guys listened to it none of us could stop laughing because everything was irrelevant on it. He was talking a whole lot of nothing – that’s hard to do, but he managed to pull it off. He sent me his number and I phoned him to see wha gwan, and he was just talking normal stuff, saying it’s nothing, it’s just music and all that boring chat. He definitely wasn’t on a hype. Then I’m hearing war dubs!
So you weren’t impressed then?
LB: But I will say one thing – if this was Lee Brasco two years ago, there would have been serious problems. But now I’ve learned to forgive and forget because I’m on my last strikes (laughs). But I don’t even wanna say his name because it’s embarrasing for me and a real waste of my time. Bruv do you know how many guys phoned and tried to get me hype? But I had to just keep it on a positive note. A lot of MCs, and I mean A LOT, said I shouldn’t have even bothered to make that video I did, because now they know who he is and they shouldn’t (laughs). There is no way on this earth I would even consider clashing such a waste of a MC – Smokey Joe should be in his place. If a good MC sent, I’d be more than happy to get the pen and paper out, get it cracking and have a bit of fun. Me and him clashing would be very boring for me and for the listeners, so I’m not gonna do it.
So what about the video with Smokey Joe sending for him?
L.B: Well I certainly wasn’t gonna send for him, so I sent in the youngers (laughs). Man called him a turtle.
Well that’s that. But you mentioned people like your brother Ayden, Dirty, Rapid and Trim because you are always with them – who else has guided or influenced you?
LB: One person who’s helped me and guided me is my uncle Paul because he is so real out here and Richard. I haven’t got a father innit, so he’s one of the only men in this world, and this is the gospel truth, apart from my uncle that I look up to and have full respect for. I talk to him because he’s a real guy – he knows the ins and out of life so he keeps it real. He’s a good role model to the kids, because he’s positive and he speaks the real stuff and I respect him so much that if I’m fighting and he says stop, I‘ll stop. I’ll talk with him about music, about grime and the MCs, and he’ll know who I’m talking about.
We stand out the chicken shop next to Mile End Station. Brasco asks for a few shout-outs.
LB: I wanna big up Wiley, because he always told me that I could do it without anyone’s help – he first brought me to studio when I was fifteen. And Richard because he’s helped me and kept me sane, he stopped me from going mad really. I wanna big up Louisa because she’s been like a mum to me, she’s got a track coming out called Naughty which is gonna be massive, and Gimme a Reason which is produced by Rapid. I wanna big up Janaya and isha Millz because they are my sisters, my brother Tipsy – he’s produced a lot of tracks out there – and my brother Delusion. A lot of people don’t know that’s he’s my brother.
Serious? Delusion’s your brother? You should do a track together – have you done one?
LB: We’re currently gonna do a mixtape together – it’s gonna be called ‘Maximum Profit’.
So that’s like a definite thing then?
LB: Nah actually it’s gonna be called ‘Brotherly Love’. But yeah I wanna big up everyone in my family and my Ruff Sqwad people, helping me and pushing me into another direction. They’ve guided me as well. But Dirty Danger and Rapid 100% – Dirty has kept me so guided it’s a joke. Dirty is the only person who I feel understands my music and where I’m coming from. Big up Amba, Mz Bratt, Heavy Dee, Hot.S, Scholar, Devious, Brooks, Lewi Chung, Joey, BlackAsh Scope Mercston, S-Darg, the family, Young–C AKA Young Flee, Boakye, Wordz, Canal, Stwikey, the rest of my street team and the whole grime collective because as one we’re unstoppable and separately we’re undefeatable so we need to stick together and support. That’s it really.
Anything else?
L.B: Also watch out for my and Scorcher’s single entitled Sky Scraper, which is set to do a lot. When I first heard it, it had Scorcher’s name all over it and he pulled through with a banging verse and delivery. Also keep your ears peeled for Trim’s, Roachee’s and my mixtape together – hopefully we can hurry up and get started on that in the studio.
Lee Brasco’s ‘Deep with the Lines’ is out soon but, in the mean-time, listen to the ‘Drastic Measures’ promos if you haven’t already!
